Research Grants and Projects
1. STUDY OF THE SOCIAL ASPECTS OF AIDS PATIENTS USING FUZZY MATHEMATICS:
I began to work on this research grant from the TN govt. in Sept 2001. I currently employ two project associates, who have interviewed over 500 persons with HIV/AIDS within Chennai for our study. We have presented around 10 papers relating to the psychological analysis of persons with HIV/AIDS. A brief and artistic powerpoint presentation on the work carried out so far (till 2002) is given here for a reader who might be curious to know how we analyse a complex topic like AIDS. Here is another slide-show on how we deal with women and AIDS. Also, I believe we are one of the first to use fuzzy theory to analyse the mental states of HIV/AIDS patients. As a mathematician, and in the broader sense as a scientist, I am extremely happy that I have been given the opportunity to work for these socially marginalized persons, and I whole-heartedly thank the Tamil Nadu State AIDS Control Society, for providing me with the financial support. Three of the books published were distributed to several national and international NGOs by TANSACS.
2. NEW ARQ PROTOCOLS USING CONCATENATED RD-CODES:
I have also worked with the Indian Space Research Organization (Dr. Ramani, Deputy Director, ISRO HQ, Bangalore-94) in this sponsored project to study protocols using concatenated codes, with applications in satellite communication channels. Two of my scholars, R. S. Rajadurai and R. S. Selvaraj completed their Ph. D. from funds in this project.
